Don't Be Conned!

Yes, this syndicate or similar syndicates had been operating since 2009-so said those people from Bukit Aman.

I got a call from the syndicate just about 30 minutes ago.

This is how it went.

"Hello! This is Bukit Aman. Inspector Lee here. Is that Mr. ABC?"

" Yes....."

Conversation turned into Chinese.

" Saya tak faham....." I replied.

The line then went cold.

The number of the caller was 03-2266 2222.

For the uninitiated, Bukit Aman is the Police HQ of the Malaysian Royal Police Force. From reading some of the blogs of those who had received similar calls, apparently, they will cajoled you with some stories of money laundering and put the apparent proverbial fear into you that somehow you or your loved ones are involved as some of your documents have been found with the so-called money laundering syndicate.

According the the blogs, if you phone that number on your hand-phone using the land-line, you will reach Bukit Aman. However, if you use the hand phone instead, you will reach the syndicate which was marking you for a con.

So, how did they do it?

One theory is that the syndicate have people in both Celcom and Telekom Malaysia who are technically speaking, helping them in the rip-off.

So, watch out and do not feel dismayed if you should receive such a call.
