Debit Cards Rule!

I was just talking to a friend last Saturday when this topic popped up.

Yes, contrary to what is happening to Malaysia and its huge credit card excesses, the debit card rules supreme in China.

Credit cards are real difficult to obtain in the world's most populous nation. So the next best thing apart from carrying cash will be to have a debit card.

So, if you do not have much money in your bank account, you just cannot spend and thus avoid the spectre of cash crunch or worse, bankruptcy.

Perhaps, Malaysia should further tighten credit card accessibility, particularly amongst the easy spending youths!

First Day at Work

Well, the day my daughter was waiting to transit into working life finally arrived. 19th September-great day for a new start.

So she slept early yesterday and got up at the crack of dawn this morning to ready herself for this milestone day of her life.

I drove her to the LRT station and off she went.

I do hope she has positive things to relate tonight when she comes home.

PS:

Yes, she was so excited and told us it was more of getting to know your new colleagues through management games and listening to relevant personnel to get a glimpse of what corporate life is all about. So onwards to Day 2.

Singing or Bellowing?

Yes, I have to post this, especially after our karaoke session yesterday. Most opportune.

Yes, we have been tolerant.

Call it neighbourhood nuisance but we have endured this infantile singer  for quite a long while. We have kept the peace.

Friends and relatives that came by to visit also remarked on this sudden outburst of bellowing, piercing the neighbourhood peace and quiet.

As the story goes, he actually lives in a far-away place but drops by each day to have a bath before he is whisked off by his parents to this far-far away resident at night.( I do not know whether the neighbours here have to bear with this bad,mad singer!)

And so it came to pass. A rolly-polly neighbour could no longer bear it. He came over to the back of the house and hollered at the boy with profanities galore.

I wonder whether the boy will succumb to this verbal threat or will he just sing on........?

I await the jury's call on this.

Family Time Karaoke

Well, it got to be the first family karaoke session.

With my wife and daughter, we hit the Red box this morning at 11am. Yes, the one at Sunway Pyramid.

It would have be complete if my son didn't have to go for his school exams.

I thought we had a good session-with the usual off keys and wrong pitches.

We enjoyed the session that lasted for 3 hours.

Food was good especially the rib-eye which only cost us RM18.00.

This was one eventful day for me.

To Be a Sales Promoter

Call it what you want. Brand Ambassador or even Sales Promoter cum Sales Person.

Such jobs are mostly taken upon by college students and those between jobs-waiting for a permanent job.

The interesting thing about such jobs is its impermanence-here today, gone tomorrow.

The products you promote or sell can range from air fresheners, detergent products, pet food to beverages.

So, this happened to be the job my daughter tried her hand before going into permanent employment.

After a short 4 to 6 hours training, you can ready to take on the job in a supermarket prepared with props, samples, script and attire.

While on the job, you are visited upon by your supervisor to ensure that you are there doing the promotion. Then there is an auditor who pretends to slink by to pretend to be a customer and he or she judges your performance to give you that added bonus.

Promoters have good sales day, meet interesting customers and sometimes get chastised by both auditors and supervisors for being late, unkempt and not meeting sales targets.

Reflecting on the highs and lows of the job and the late and oftentimes incomplete payments, my daughter's favourite on the job assignment was selling pet food wearing a fluffy white cat tail. It was fun while it lasted....

Today ends her days as a sales promoter and brand ambassador-closing another short chapter of life.
