Kartika, a Malaysian model was caught drinking beer at a hotel lounge in a province in Malaysia.Shariah law, forbade Muslims from consuming alcohol.She was arrested. Sentence was summarily passed and she was to be given six of the best. Many women groups condemned the sentence and Amnesty International have asked that the sentence be revoked and laws be amended to prohibit woman from being caned.
The day for the caning came closer. This morning, the actress was put into a van and it sped off in the direction of Kuala Lumpur. Suddenly it did a U-turn and released Kartika at the door-steps of her home in Karai, in the province of Perak. A technical glitch made the warrant to be null and void.Is this for a fact or has this to do with politics, especially with polling day tomorrow at a by-election in the nearby province of Penang?
