Amy Tan-my Favourite Std 4 teacher

She looks Cantonese. Looks like  a movie star of the '60s.

Charming, petite and dresses well.

Do I have a crush on her back then. Possibly.

Looking back, she was the prettiest teacher ever.

Wonder where she is now?

Death in the Family

Hardly 59.

This morning she was gone even before her son reached the hospital.

Sepsis-the clotting of the blood that restrict blood flows to all limbs and organs and then death.

She was my sister, Shaline and she left us in the wee hours of the morning on 27 April 2016.

She was my flesh and blood.

I lost Donny in 1988.

Some 27 years later, I lost Shaline.

Reflections of Shaline.

Mild-mannered and sometimes very simplistic in thought.

Procedural and generous to a fault.

My sister, Shaline.

Tomorrow will be her wake at Guanyin in Kampung Tunku.

On 29 April, there would be her last rites and thence, cremation.

On balance, though her life was full of challenges, Shaline never buckles.

She is my dear, dear sister. Always, will be; even though she is now with God, the Almighty.

I pray that God will bless her soul and put her on the right hand side, where his favourites sit.

Amen.

Accident in Section 17

Yes, when it was least expected, it occurred.

I was on the left hand side of the service road driving merrily after some shopping in DIY at PJ One.

Suddenly out of the darkness from a lane between two blocks spurted out an old blue Kancil.

It hit me on my right fender and wheel compartment.

At first, I could not open the front driver's door but after nudging it, gradually it opened agonizingly to let me out of the car.

A tall elderly Tuan Haji came out of the small vehicle.

He claimed that he was already on the road when I hit him instead.

His damages...not too sure but his bumper got a bit dislodged and there were two small marks on the front fender near the lights.

He simply  refused to give me any details such as name, driving licence and insurance.

"Go and report to the police, " he pointedly said to me.

So, I spent 90 minutes at the Traffic Police Station in Section 8, PJ.

Got home at 11.45 pm.

I do not know what is the 'siasatan' going to be.

Whoever is found wrong pays RM 300 and may lose some demerit points.

Right now, the "other guy" has not reported the accident to the police.

Sargent Nur told me to wait 24 hours. If no report has been made, then onward action will be taken to track down the perpetrator.

If he is found to be  in the wrong, then I could make a claim against his insurance.

Found out the car is registered in his daughter's name. Address: Klang.

The car insurance is with AXA Affin.

The Sargent told me that 'give or take', the investigations on this accident will take some 14 days and some.

So, meanwhile, as my car is still roadworthy, I will live with the additional damage to the fender to display the 'wounds of war' driving in a war zone that is Petaling Jaya!

Writing and Translation

In some way, writing is my forte.

Thus far, I have written three trade reports. I thank my late friend for putting out his neck on the chopping board  to give me this opportunity.  No, no rules were broken. It was by quotation.

Yes, I am  conversant with translation too!I have done a translation of two annual reports, I have also translated licenses issues by authorities  as well as assignments related to trade.

While jobs are hard to come by and the revenue generated is minuscule, the qualitative rewards are truly enormous when your writings get accepted in first draft forms!

I am not proud of my revenue thus far as it is not sustainable. So, do not try to make writing your primary preoccupation to earn a livelihood. Do it on the sideline and do not leave your day time job!
Make it a hobby that you enjoy through your own creativity and imagination!

I am currently writing a piece for a restaurant.
